Bernard Dunne Visits St. Michael’s.
On Tuesday afternoon January 20th Bernard Dunne, former World Boxing Champion, came to visit St. Michael’s School. He was a guest of Rachel, John and Elisha of Carambola and they came with him. Pupils from Junior Infants to First formed a Guard of Honour wearing any sports’ medals they had ever won. Bernard was very pleased to stop and chat to the children about their medals. Mrs. McCarthy welcomed Bernard into the Assembly Hall where the rest of the school had gathered. Bernard spoke to the whole school for a short while, and then spoke specifically to pupils from 4th to 6th. Bernard told them about the advantages of Healthy Eating and Good sleep, and about the importance of Education and Sport in their lives. He encouraged everyone to always do their best. Then Alex Coleman took some photos for the Anglo Celt before Bernard left us to return to Dublin.
We are a Catholic school under the patronage of the Bishop of Kilmore. We are also a DEIS Band 1 school as designated by the Department of Education and Skills. 
There are 260 wonderful pupils, boys and girls in classes from Junior Infants to sixth. We encourage our pupils to partake of a variety of activities – musical, dramatic, sporting, artistic, as well as academic.
